My previous post got me to thinking about another popular show and its connection with 90.9. And that connection goes beyond the obvious.
You may have heard of the program, a modest little show out of Chicago (or is it NYC?) called “This American Life.” Yeah, I imagine you’ve heard of it.

Remember that classic SNL skit about the man who had a desk near the copier? We had our own version of “copyman” here at 90.9, but aside from the geography of his desk, this person (let’s call him “M”) bore no resemblance to the character actor Rob Schneider invested with such dimwitted ebullience.
“M” is an extraordinarily nice guy (and a talented musician to boot), but he suffered the severe misfortune of being relegated to a desk near an office printer in perpetual use (radio folk like to print stuff out … and lots of it).
“M’s” fate inspired another co-worker at that time to produce this forlorn radio piece (click “full episode”). The piece features “M” at around 42:11, as well as other familiar voices. Some like “M” have gone on to other endeavors; others are still here at the station.
Enjoy.
Loved that story. I really felt for him.
He is a great guy. And doing very well for himself these days.
Thanks for dropping by Mary!
