Thursday last, 40-plus food bloggers of various stripes invaded the station as part of the second local food blogger meet-up “sponsored” by 90.9. For a couple of hours that evening, foodies outnumbered the old-fashioned radio folk. Outbreaks are tailor-made for social media. There’s the Google map mash-up, the Centers for Disease Control Twitter-feed, and now NPR has lauched its very own “flu blog,” pithily titled “Flu Shots.”

"Ring and Spring" Microphones, originally uploaded by jschneid. Vivian Schiller, who helms National Public Radio, spoke from DC with Tom Ashbrook yesterday. Check out the lively conversation the interview elicited on the website. Get any two radio listeners into a room….
Seeking Direction

directions you seek, originally uploaded by Spatial Mongrel I am going to let you in on one very abysmally kept secret: Most of you have little use for our site. (And for the purpose of this conversation, let’s leave “show,” as opposed to “station” website, out of it. That’s an entirely different kettle of fish [...]

July Workshops on Social Media and Fundraising, originally uploaded by cambodia4kidsorg. To tell you the truth, it is not something I am especially effective at. And I just don’t have the chops for the whole on-air pledge-drive routine. My hat goes off to those dedicated co-workers holed up in a glass-enclosed studio for hours, the [...]

WBUR’s Facebook page, originally uploaded by WBUR. We social media neophytes can no longer afford to leave Facebook stewing on 90.9’s back burner, seeing as it has exponentially mushroomed over the last couple of years like forest fungi after a summer tempest. (Is it possible someone out there is not on Facebook? Okay, there’s dear [...]

The world’s largest six pack, originally uploaded by magnetbox. The GM is right that we in the social media community are, today, relatively small in number and don’t really fall in the Joe Six Pack demographic. I suspect we would probably describe ourselves as early adopters, rather than Joe Six Packs. That should be an [...]

Got photos? Please add them to our Flickr Group. Clint Cavanaugh introduces the Twitterati to the WBUR studios during the fourth social media event, originally uploaded by WBUR. Last evening’s social media event drew our largest crowd to date. I guesstimate about 30+ people passed through our doors. Thank you to all who braved traffic-clogged [...]

THE OPEN GATE, originally uploaded by lewsviews. My apologies for the let-up in blogging—a nasty virus has sapped my limited ability to string sentences together to form coherent sentences. So this entry will be brief … very brief.
