Well folks, they fired up the monstrous supercollider and I am still here. No metastasizing blackholes consuming WBUR along with the known universe. But this is a trial run, so we ain’t out of the woods just yet. Push the lever into the full “up” position and we could all be neck-deep in the Big Galactic Muddy once the needle dips into the red.
Speaking of life, we are, despite my bone-deep skepticism, trying to spark some in our Election 2008 site. The challenge is formidable: Those jonesing for a political fix have at their fingertips a vast range of deeper, far more interactive choices then our modest, little endeavor. I fear an unabated blossoming of those dreaded “0 Comments.” Drat. I hate those.
Still, it is a measure of how seriously WBUR regards this site that it has tossed the keys to the station’s latest acquisition: the estimable Andrew Phelps. As 90.9’s first-ever web editor, he is tasked with ramping up the election site, which I anticipate will be one of the many responsibilities in a soon to be burgeoning portfolio.
Welcome aboard, Andrew. And good luck!
Hopefully, some of you will have an opportunity to meet Andrew next Tuesday, and he can tell you what drew him to cold, hard New England from the sublime and sunny San Diego, where he was a reporter and new media geek at KPBS.
And dear reader(s): Please tell us what we can do to make the site more compelling to you.
