Talk about a small world…
A little Facebook-facilitated serendipity just drove home to me yet again the power of social media in making connections or, in this particular case, re-establishing old ones.
The Grammy-nominated Mexican folk band Sones de México Ensemble were guests on WBUR’s On Point last January. The Chicago-based band has earned critical kudos for its vibrant Mexican folk riff covers of Led Zeppelin and other unlikely stylistic pairings.
Loath as I am to admit it, the band’s On Point debut happened well before my Facebook days. A grizzled “old” new media hack like myself didn’t deign to Facebook, Utter, Twitter, or otherwise fritter my workdays away. My loss. I missed the opportunity to reconnect with an extraordinarily talented former Earlham College classmate.
So naturally when I received a message in my Facebook inbox today from Juan Díes, the former classmate and band’s co-founder, my jaw fell to the floor, where it still remains.
Anyone have a similar story they care to share?
